William Woods is new
Schreiner liberal arts dean
Dr. Mike Looney, Schreiner
University provost and vice president of academic affairs, has
announced that Dr. William Woods will become the new dean of
the school of liberal arts for a three-year term. Dr. Woods replaces
Dr. John Huddleston, who is stepping down after six years in the
position.
“Dr. William Woods has been at Schreiner University since 1998 in
our English department,” Dr. Looney said. “He has served as chair of
the English department for four years, and he was the unanimous
nomination of the School of Liberal Arts to become their next dean.”
Dr. Woods, professor of English and communications, was honored last
year with two teaching awards: the Margaret Hosler Award for
Excellence in Teaching and the Harriet Garrett Award for Excellence
in teaching. Students determine both awards. |

"This is such a
wonderful opportunity, and I'm delighted my colleagues nominated me
for the job and
Dr. Looney and
President Summerlin approved that
nomination,” said Dr. Woods. “I'm very fortunate to love the work I
do for the university and to work with such outstanding faculty
colleagues. Schreiner University was first and foremost a liberal
arts college, and I see good things for my division as we continue
to grow, to uphold those fine liberal arts traditions.” |
