Dr. Tim
Summerlin, president of
Schreiner University, will
be one of the judges at the
sixth annual River Parade
Saturday, Aug. 16.
The other two judges, also
from Schreiner, will be Dr.
Tommy Noonan, of the
school’s Health & Wellness
Center, and Dr. Don
Crandall, assistant
professor of music.
The River Parade is one of
the few parades in the
country where the floats
actually float — down the
Guadalupe River from Flat
Rock Park in Kerrville. The
event is a project of Clear
River Advocates, Inc., that
is the brainchild of
Schreiner student Marvin
Willis. The nonprofit has a
Web site at
www.clearriveradvocates.org
with pictures from previous
parades.
District 53 Rep. Harvey
Hilderbran will be the
parade’s Grand Marshall.
There will be food booths
and a flyover of small
planes to supplement the fun
on the river. Special
musical guests Harry & The
Hightones will play for the
after-parade dance.
The parade will start at
4 p.m. For more
information, to enter a
float or set up a booth,
call Willis at 830-377-9838
or send an e-mail to
marvinleewillis@yahoo.com.
