KERRVILLE, Texas—The
Texas Heritage Music Foundation is proud to
announce that the 12th annual
Texas Heritage Living History Day
will be from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at the
Robbins-Lewis Pavilion on Schreiner
University campus in Kerrville. The
event, “Another Way of Learning through
Stories and Songs,” will be open to the
public and admission will be free.
However, the planned Jimmie Rodgers
Texas Songwriters Symposium for Sept. 27
has been postponed until further notice.

More than 50 performers and presenters will be spread throughout the park
surrounding the pavilion to both entertain and educate. Events and exhibits
will include chuck wagons and cowboy cooking demonstrations, teepees with
Native American exhibits and stories, Texas heritage demonstrations,
storytellers and oral historians, The Texas Camel Corps, Texas singers and
songwriters and many more. Central to the event will be the annual noon
tribute to former Kerrville resident and Father of Country Music Jimmie
Rodgers. Come and hear the stories of Jimmie Rodgers as told by Tony Navarra
while area musicians play Rodgers’ legendary songs on stage. Food and drinks
will be available for sale at the event. A take-home educator’s packet will
be available to all teachers.
There also will be a Texas Folklore Society Discussion Panel 4 to 6 p.m.,
which will discuss the facts and folklore of “The Songs of Texas.” Admission
to the panel discussion is free and open to the public and all interested
educators and historians are urged to attend.
Original plans for this year’s Living History Day included a new Saturday
addition to the event—The Jimmie Rodgers Texas Songwriters Symposium.
However, due to lack of funding for this new component, THMF Executive
Director Kathleen Hudson has decided to postpone the symposium until further
notice. “I still think the symposium would be a fantastic addition to the
Hill Country music scene,” Hudson said, “but right now, we will be
concentrating on presenting the best Living History Day yet.”
