KERRVILLE, Texas—The
Texas Heritage Music Foundation is proud to announce that the 12th
annual Texas Heritage
Living History Weekend will be expanded to include a songwriter’s
symposium on Saturday, Sept. 26-27, at Schreiner University in
Kerrville.
Officially billed the Jimmie Rodgers Texas Songwriter’s Symposium, the
symposium will showcase a nationally recognized songwriter and a Hill
Country-based songwriter who will share their stories as well as their
songs. The symposium also will investigate the cultural significance of
these songwriters who choose to interact with today’s culture through their
songwriting. There will be a question and answer session with the
songwriters following each of their performances. The symposium will be open
to the public and the admission will be free. Performers and times TBA.
The main event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Sept.
26, at the Robbins-Lewis Pavilion on Schreiner University campus. The event
is open to the public and admission will be free. More than 50
performers and presenters will be spread throughout the park surrounding the
pavilion to both entertain and educate, including chuck wagons and cowboy
cooking demonstrations, teepees with Native American exhibits and stories,
Texas heritage demonstrations, storytellers and oral historians, The Texas
Camel Corps, Texas singers and songwriters and many, many more. Central to
the event will be the annual noon tribute to former Kerrville resident and
“Father of Country Music” Jimmie Rodgers. Come and listen to the stories of
Jimmie Rodgers as told by Tony Navarra while area musicians play Rodgers’
legendary songs on stage.
