Lamar Smith visits Schreiner University

U.S. Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) visited the Schreiner University campus the day after Election Day to discuss issues and legislation concerning higher education with Schreiner president Dr. Tim Summerlin. Smith also spoke with Schreiner students and answered questions about matters facing the committees on which he serves—Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Science and Technology committees, as well as the Ethics Task Force.

“He had a lively session with about 40 of our students on topics such as higher education funding, science education and the intricacies of Congressional committee work,” Summerlin said

The students came from two political science classes, a communication class, Schreiner’s Moot Court and Ethics Match teams, Honors students, Student Senate officers, business students and Sumner’s Scholars.

“We greatly appreciated Congressman Lamar Smith’s visit to the campus the day after his reelection,” Summerlin said. “He and I had the opportunity to discuss critical issues facing higher education nationally. And it is always informative for our students to be able to interact personally with our elected representatives in Washington, DC, and Congressman Smith made excellent use of his visit to Schreiner.”
