Schreiner University’s
Monday Night Fiction series
will discuss “The Left Hand
of Darkness” by Ursula K. LeGuin at
7 p.m., November
17, in the Scarle-Philips
Room in the William Logan
Library on the Schreiner
campus. Dr. David Mulry,
associate professor of
English at Schreiner, will
be the discussion leader.
LeGuin is a prolific and
award-winning science
fiction writer, probably
best known for her Earthsea
series. “The Left Hand of
Darkness” is one of several
books set in her Hainish
universe. The protagonist of
is Genly Ai, who is working
to bring the world of Gethen,
who are androgynes for all
but two days a month, into
the Ekumen, a galactic
federation. The book
received a Nebula Award in
1969 and a Hugo in 1970, the
top literary awards for
science fiction writing.
This literary event is free
and open to the public, and
refreshments will be served.
