The second in the annual series of symposia on Texas water issues will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, in Auditorium Room, number MB 0.104 on the ground floor of the Main Building at The University of Texas-San Antonio 1604 campus. Free parking will be available and refreshments donated by UTSA will follow the meeting. |

Robert
Puente,
president/CEO
of
San
Antonio
Water
System,
and
Doug
Miller,
chairman
of
the
board
of
directors
of
Edwards
Aquifer
Authority,
will
be
panelists,
with
Robert
Potts
moderating.
Miller
and
Puente
will
address
issues
associated
with
the
Edwards
Aquifer,
its
productivity
and
conservation
in
relation
to
population
growth
in
the
region,
and
policy
and
efforts
to
acquire
alternate
sources
of
water.
The
symposia
are
co-sponsored
by
Schreiner
University,
Texas
Tech
University,
Texas
Public
Radio
and
the
Hill
Country
Alliance.
UTSA
joins
them
in
sponsoring
the
Nov.
13
symposium.
Puente
recently
retired
after
17
years
in
the
Texas
House
of
Representatives,
where
he
served
on
the
House
Natural
Resources
Committee.
He
sponsored
the
landmark
Senate
Bill
3,
which
deals
with
statewide
water
management
and
pumping
permits
for
the
Edwards
Aquifer.
He
also
was
involved
in
the
1993
legislation
that
created
Edwards
Aquifer.
Miller
was
elected
to
the
District
73
seat
in
the
Texas
House
of
Representatives
in
the
Nov.
5
election.
He
served
as
water
liaison
for
the
City
of
New
Braunfels
and
Comal
County
for
eight
years,
and
now
is
Chair
of
the
Board
of
Directors
of
the
Edwards
Aquifer
Authority.
The
Texas
Water
Development
Board
appointed
him
to
serve
as a
small
business
representative
on
the
South
Central
Texas
Regional
Water
Planning
Group.
He
is a
former
mayor
of
New
Braunfels
and
served
on
the
city
council.
These
events
are
free
and
open
to
the
public.
