Schreiner University Holds Ground Blessing for New Residence Hall

Schreiner University had a ground blessing Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 for a new freshman residence that is expected to be completed by the time the class of 2013 arrives next fall. The building, which will be called Faulkner Residence Hall, is a joint venture between Donna and Royce Faulkner and Schreiner University. It will be located just inside the entrance to the University and across from the back of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

SU President Dr. Tim Summerlin addresses ground blessing audience for new Faulkner Residence Hall

Schreiner University President Dr. Tim Summerlin addresses participants in the ground blessing for Schreiner’s new freshman residence, Faulkner Residence Hall. The $7 million structure will house 170 and is expected to be ready in July 2009.

“Schreiner is thrilled that Royce and Donna Faulkner have the kind of enthusiasm for Schreiner that has made this partnership possible,” said Schreiner President Tim Summerlin. “This new residence hall will be a blessing to students for years to come. The Faulkners’ generosity and Mr. Faulkner’s expertise have contributed to the development of a facility of superb quality. Next fall, we will have some very excited students moving in. Perhaps no one but a former Schreiner student who lived in West Barracks could so appreciate the joy of creating a residence hall like this!”

Schreiner has had record enrollments for the past three years, with a current student body of 1,011. Most Schreiner students live on campus, with more than 60 percent of students coming from San Antonio and the Hill Country. The new residence hall is being built to accommodate the current student body as well as in expectation of Schreiner reaching its goal of 1,200 students by 2010. It will have 170 beds and cost about $7 million.
