‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’ is Number One With Monday Night Fiction

English instructor Sally Hannay will lead the discussion at Schreiner University’s Monday Night Fiction series at 7 p.m., October 20, in the Scarle-Philips Room in the William Logan Library on the Schreiner campus. The group will discuss “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith.

“The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” is the first in a series of novels featuring Precious Ramotswe, the first female private detective in Botswana. In addition to accounts of her investigations, such as that of the husband eaten by an alligator, the books provide an affectionate view of African society, flora and fauna. A 13-episode TV series based on the novels is now filming and eventually will be shown on HBO.
