Schreiner Mountaineer Fitness Center Opens its Doors
Schreiner University and local dignitaries cut the ribbon today for the University’s Mountaineer Fitness Center, marking the completion of the first phase of the $20 million project. Those attending the event were given a tour of the brand-new sports and fitness facility, which includes handball and racquetball courts, men’s and women’s locker rooms, an aerobics and dance room, a spinning room (cycling) and machine and free weights and cardiovascular exercise equipment. It also will house Schreiner’s health clinic, a training room, exercise physiology lab, a classroom and coaches’ offices.
Dr. Tim Summerlin, president of Schreiner University, speaks at the dedication of the Mountaineer Fitness Center in front of a crowd of donors, community members, Schreiner staff, faculty and students, as well as many former students who were on campus for Recall weekend.
On the podium for the occasion were Dr. Tim Summerlin, president of Schreiner; Dr. Bill Franklin, chairman of the Schreiner board of trustees; Ron Macosko, University athletic director; Gloria Algeo, R.N., director of health and wellness; Kathryn Adcock-Hinojosa, Schreiner student athlete; Matt Goodwyn, director of the center; and Andre Botha and Miguel Hopkins, building coordinators.
Also present at the event were donors, who helped make this building possible, and business and local government leaders. Schreiner faculty and staff and former Schreiner students visiting the campus for Schreiner’s annual Recall also attended.
