Schreiner University’s reaffirmation of accreditation

KERRVILLE, TX—Schreiner University’s reaffirmation of accreditation was confirmed Monday afternoon (December 7) at the 114th annual meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ (SACS) Commission on Colleges & Universities, the regional accrediting body for higher education in the South from Texas to the east coast. Reaffirmation of college accreditation is on a 10-year cycle and includes a process for achieving and documenting improvement.

Schreiner University president, Dr. Tim Summerlin, said the announcement confirms that Schreiner’s mission is well served by its academic and co-curricular programs, as well as its fiscal stability.

“Reaffirmation of accreditation is a process that touches our entire campus community at one time or another,” Summerlin said. “It is a demanding process, but one that is a meaningful venture in institutional self-improvement.”

“What we learned during the previous reaffirmation process was the trigger for a decade of remarkable growth and improvement,” Summerlin said. “Similarly, this reaffirmation process has helped us redouble our attention to student outcomes and to assessment for improvement. Probably the most exciting result was the Quality Enhancement Plan that our faculty developed. It revises our core interdisciplinary courses to help shape graduates with skills and competencies to excel in professional settings.”
