Author, former Texas legislator to speak at Schreiner
Max Sherman, a former Texas state senator, nationally known educator, and author of “Speaking the Truth with Eloquent Thunder,” a collection of Barbara Jordan’s speeches, will speak at Schreiner University at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center ballroom on the Schreiner campus.
Sherman was dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas-Austin 1983-1997. He has also served as special counsel to the governor and as president of West Texas State University. During his time as a state senator, Texas Monthly recognized him three times as one of the 10 best Texas legislators, noting his integrity, intelligence and “genuine sense of public service.”
“I celebrate having Max Sherman at Schreiner to speak during Black History Month. Campus and community will have opportunity to hear from a great man on a timely topic,” Dr. Tim Summerlin, Schreiner’s president, said. “The messages one finds in his collection of Sen. Jordan’s addresses are timely and I believe everyone will enjoy the opportunity to spend question and answer time with someone who has contributed as Sherman has to our history.”
Copies of “Speaking the Truth with Eloquent Thunder” are available at the Schreiner University Bookstore in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center.
This event is sponsored by Schreiner’s Center for Innovative Learning and is free and open to the public. More information about Schreiner and other CIL programs is available on the Web site at www.schreiner.edu.
