Schreiner University’s annual Writers Conference will feature free workshops by Dr. William Woods, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, and Sally Hannay, instructor in English, as well as a performance by well-known songwriter Guy Clark on Monday, March 2, in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the Schreiner campus. The workshops will be 3:30-5 p.m., with a reception for Clark at 6:30 p.m. Clark and Verlon Thompson will perform starting at 7 p.m. Hannay will lead a workshop on writing poetry; Woods on fiction.

Clark is the author/composer of many classics, including “L. A. Freeway,” “Texas, 1947,” “She Ain't Goin’ Nowhere,” “That Old Time Feeling” and “Like a Coat From the Cold.” His songs have been sung and recorded by such celebrated performers as Jerry Jeff Walker, Johnny Cash and Vince Gill.

“I will be answering questions and singing my songs,” Clark said. “I’m looking forward to it.”  Clark will be honored by the Texas Heritage Songwriters Foundation in Austin on March 1.

Reservations are not required for the conference, but conference organizer Kathleen Hudson, professor of English at Schreiner, said that RSVPs would be welcome. “Walkups are always welcome,” she added. Hudson can be contacted at 830-792-7409 or khudson@schreiner.edu.  For more information about Schreiner University, visit the Web at www.schreiner.edu.
