Schreiner education students win prestigious award

The Schreiner University unit of the Association of Texas Professional Educators has been named University Local Unit of the Year for Region 20 at the ATPE Leader U conference in Austin. The student group was nominated in the spring 2009 semester and submitted an essay about the unit. Lea Hayes, Schreiner ATPE president, represented the group at an interview during the conference. The award comes with a $500 check, banner and a trophy. The Schreiner unit is sponsored by Dr. Neva Cramer, assistant professor of education and Karen Taylor Backor, instructor in education and reading.

“This is a prestigious award and the Schreiner department of teacher education is extremely proud of these students,” Backor said.
