Monday Night Fiction to Investigate ‘The Eyre Affair’
Schreiner University’s Monday Night Fiction group will discuss “The Eyre Affair” by Jasper Fforde at 7 p.m., April 6, in the Scarle-Philips Room in the William Logan Library on the Schreiner campus. Dr. David Mulry, associate professor of English at Schreiner, will lead the discussion.
“The Eyre Affair” is Fforde’s first book and follows female literary detective Thursday Next through an alternate reality version of the Crimean War and Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre.” In Fforde’s parallel universe, Russia and England have fought in the Crimea for more than 100 years. England is run by the Goliath megacorporation, Wales is a separate country and literary debate can inspire gang activity and murder. The book is the first of a series and continues in “Lost in a Good Book.”
This literary event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. For more information on this or any other Schreiner University humanities event, contact Martha York at the Schreiner University Center for Innovative Learning (830) 792-7352.
