Schreiner graduates 141 on May 9
Schreiner University’s 2009 commencement and the baccalaureate service will take place on Saturday, May 9, in the Edington Center on the Schreiner campus.
The 2009 Schreiner University graduates are the University’s silver anniversary baccalaureate class, marking the 25 years since Schreiner College first awarded four-year degrees in 1984. The class of 1984 numbered 18; this year’s class includes 122 receiving baccalaureate degrees, 17 receiving master’s degrees and two associate degrees.
The Rev. Dr. Laura S. Mendenhall, president of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., will address the class of 2009 at the baccalaureate service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Mendenhall has served as pastor of three Texas Presbyterian churches, in Austin and Victoria.
Dr. Richard Ekman, president of the Council of Independent Colleges, Washington, DC, will speak at the commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Ekman has been on the staff of the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as vice president, dean and history professor at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, and assistant to the provost at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
