Schreiner University Finalizes Agreement with Vermont Law School
From left to right: Dr. Charlie McCormick, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Schreiner University; Dr. Anne Berre, Schreiner instructor of business; Dr. Steven Ellers, chair of Schreiner’s Department of Social Sciences; and Kathy Hartman, associate dean for enrollment management at Vermont Law School recently finalized an articulation agreement between Schreiner and VLS
On October 27, Schreiner University Provost and VICE President for Academic Affairs Dr. Charlie McCormick and Vermont Law School Associate Dean Kathy Hartman signed an agreement between the two schools that will guarantee admission to VLS to any Schreiner student who meets the agreed upon criteria. The agreement is the first of its kind between Schreiner and a major national law program. VLS has had the top program in the nation in environmental law for 11 consecutive years and also offers international law, energy law and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law & Policy. It has joint degree programs with law schools in France, Spain, Italy, Mexico and China, which enable its students to obtain licenses to practice law in other countries.
“This articulation agreement with the Vermont Law School is more evidence that Schreiner University continues to expand its recognition and impact well beyond the Hill Country,” said Dr. McCormick. “It is doing so in order provide our students—many of them Hill Country natives—access to opportunities that are as vast as their imaginations.”
The agreement came as the culmination of several months work between VLS and Schreiner’s Social Sciences Department, which includes pre-law studies.
“It expands the opportunities available to our students in fields that will be highly marketable in coming years,” said Dr. Anne Berre, Schreiner instructor of business, who initiated the discussions between the institutions this past summer. VLS awarded Dr. Berre its 2009 Environmental Law and Policy Scholarship.
Dr. Steven Ellers, chair of the Department of Social Sciences, said, “Schreiner is building one of the finest legal and political preparatory programs in this region. Schreiner students graduating with its Bachelor of Arts degree in political science have enjoyed a 100 percent success rate in gaining admission to graduate programs over the past five years.”
