Monday Night Fiction - “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”
Schreiner University’s Monday Night Fiction series will discuss “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” by Patrick Süskind at 7 p.m., Monday, October 19, in the Scarle-Philips Room in the William Logan Library on the Schreiner campus. Silke Feltz, adjunct professor of English at Schreiner, will lead the discussion.
“Perfume” was originally published in German as “Das Parfum” in 1985. The book takes place in France in the 18th century with protagonist Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who has no scent himself, but has a superior sense of smell. He ends up working at a parfumerie, creating scents that can influence human emotions and becomes a serial killer in the process. The book was made into the movie starring Dustin Hoffman, Ben Wishaw and Alan Rickman in 2006.
Monday Night Fiction is sponsored by Schreiner’s Center for Innovative Learning. For more information about this or any other Schreiner University humanities event, contact Martha York at the Center for Innovative Learning, (830) 792-7352.
