Schreiner’s Barney now #1 in
U.S. junior trap shooting
Schreiner freshman Caitlin Barney
of Ingram is the number one Junior Women’s trap shooter in the
United States with an average score of 86.3 percent, less than 2
percentage points off the score of Beijing Olympic bronze
medalist in this event, Corey Cogdell.
Rachel Heiden, on temporary leave from Schreiner to attend
Olympic training camp, came in second shooting 85.55 percent.
The Junior Women’s division is for sports shooters 20 years old
or younger. Both Barney and Heiden are members of
Schreiner’s Shooting Sports Society
team, which trains at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center in
Kerrville.
Barney is ranked #4 in the Open Women’s Division, with Schreiner
sophomore Kelsey Zauhar, of Kerrville ranked #7 and Heiden #8.
Barney also won gold in women’s
international trap at the National Collegiate Championship 41st
Association of College Unions International Clay Target
Championships in San Antonio, shooting 21 out of 25 targets in
the final round. The national title also earns her a berth on
the 2009 USA National Shotgun Development Team. Thirty-seven
schools and over 300 shooters participated in the event. |
