Rachel Heiden, a member of last year’s
Schreiner Shooting Sports Society team at Schreiner University, recently
shot for the
International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup women’s trap shooting
bronze medal in Cairo. Heiden, who is a native of Clinton, Mich., was
shooting for
USA Shooting, with which she is training for the 2012 Olympics.
In her first World Cup appearance, Heiden took the bronze over Corey Cogdell,
who won bronze for the U.S. in this event at the 2008 Olympics, and other
competitors with more international experience.
“It is unheard of that a college woman comes out of nowhere and wins a medal
at the World Cup,” said Bill Thomas, who coaches the Schreiner team.
Heiden plans to return to Schreiner to finish her degree in fall 2009.
