Schreiner University’s
Monday Night Fiction series will discuss
“Lady Audley’s Secret” by Mary Braddon at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9,
in the Scarle-Philips Room in the William Logan Library on the
Schreiner campus. Dr. David Mulry, associate professor of English at
Schreiner, will be the discussion leader.
“Lady Audley’s Secret” was originally published in three volumes in
1862.
“Mary Braddon was a celebrated Victorian sensation novelist,” Mulry
said, “as popular as Dickens in her time.”
It is the story of protagonist
Robert Audley’s investigation into the disappearance of a friend and
his attempts to discover the truth about his uncle’s wife, Lucy
Audley. The book has provided the story for three silent movies, in
1912, 1915 and 1920, and a British television program in 2000. A
stage version was produced off-Broadway in 1972. |
