Schreiner Recall is this weekend; dining hall closed Saturday

Recall, Schreiner University’s annual homecoming weekend, will take place Friday-Sunday, April 16-18. Recall is always is an opportunity for alumni and former students to revisit the campus, catch up with old friends and make some new ones. Recall is sponsored by the Schreiner Former Students Association.

Among the weekend events are a golf tournament with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., Friday, April 16; the Tribute to Schreiner Legends Banquet, Military Breakfast and the third annual Recall parade, with an Elvis theme, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.” Twenty-five-year grads from 1985 will be honored during the event, as will decade anniversary graduates and those who graduated 50 or more years ago.

The Schreiner Legends Banquet will honor new Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Sam Lanham III, who graduated from Schreiner Institute in 1951 and went on to become a Schreiner faculty member and trustee, as well as a benefactor to the University’s library. Also to be honored are Coach Dudley Rogers (posthumously) and David Hulse ’90, as new members of the Athletic Hall of Honor, and Capt. Jack Stevens ’43, who will receive the SFSA Distinguished Service Award.

The public is invited to the parade, which will start at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 17, and circle the campus on Acorn Boulevard. Participants, including Schreiner faculty and staff, student organizations and local alumni, will be competing for prizes in keeping with the parade theme.
“We are extremely excited about RECALL this year,” said Paul Camfield, associate director of Alumni Relations. “We have had a great response from our golden grads and there are many other reunions planned. We even have former coaches from the 1950s coming back to reunite after 53 years.
“We encourage any former student regardless of class year to attend RECALL,” he added. “It is a special time for us to welcome them back to campus.”
The Schreiner University cafeteria will be closed to the public on Saturday, April 17, but will reopen to the public for brunch on Sunday, April 18.
