Jim ‘The Rookie’ Morris to speak at Schreiner convocation Friday

Jim ‘The Rookie’ MorrisSchreiner University’s Convocation ceremony marking the start of a new academic year will be 1-2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27, in the Dietert Auditorium on the University campus. This year’s speaker will be Jim “The Rookie” Morris, whose life story inspired the major motion picture: “The Rookie,” starring Dennis Quaid as Morris.
Morris played some professional baseball after graduating from San Angelo State. He eventually became a high school teacher and made a bet with the school’s baseball team: if they won the district championship, he would try out for major league baseball. The team took the district title that year for the first time in the school’s history.
