Schreiner University will kick off its
annual Todd’s Teddy Bear Drive at the men’s basketball game against the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13. Anyone
who donates a new stuffed animal at the game will receive a free snow
cone and a rubber bracelet.
The Teddy Bear Drive honors Todd Schwennesen, a Schreiner student who
wanted to help the children he met while undergoing cancer treatment at
the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He planned to deliver bears
to every cancer patient at the center, but he lost his battle with
cancer before he could complete his mission. Since the first Teddy Bear
Drive three years ago, Schreiner students, faculty and staff, and
community members have donated more than 2,000 stuffed animals that have
brought love and hope to seriously ill children.
From Feb. 13 through March 31, new stuffed animals can be dropped off at
the Student Activities office on the first floor of the Floyd & Kathleen
Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the Schreiner campus. This event is
open to public and is co-sponsored by the Schreiner Student Activities
Board, Student Senate and men’s basketball team.
