Monday Night Fiction to Feature ‘A Mercy’ by Morrison April 12
Monday Night Fiction to Feature ‘A Mercy’ by Morrison April 12Schreiner University’s Monday Night Fiction series will discuss “A Mercy” by Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison at 7 p.m., Monday, April 12, in the Scarle-Philips Room in the William Logan Library on the Schreiner campus. Dr. Lydia Kualapai, associate professor of English at Schreiner, will be the discussion leader.

“A Mercy” is Morrison’s ninth novel and made the New York Times Book Review list of the 10 Best Books of 2008. The story is about a slave on a rural New York farm in the 17th century and her fellow female farm worker, a Native American whose tribe was decimated by small pox. The book explores their stories as well as that of the farm’s owner, investigating issues such as slavery and the treatment of women in America in the late 1600s.

Monday Night Fiction is sponsored by Schreiner’s Center for Innovative Learning. For more information about this or any other Schreiner University humanities event, contact Martha York at the Center for Innovative Learning, (830) 792-7352.
