International Peacemaker Tubuwa to visit Schreiner University

John Tubuwa, a pastor and International Peacemaker from the Sudan, will be at Schreiner University next week. Tubuwa, who is a member of the Murle tribe, will speak about the Cooperative Peace Agreement in the Sudan and the challenges that the Sudanese and the church in the Sudan still face.

Pastor Tubuwa will speak at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the ballroom on the second floor of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center. There is no charge and the public is welcome to attend and bring along a brown bag lunch.

Tubuwa was recruited as a child soldier for the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. After completing training, he was sent with the other young soldiers to school rather than the front lines of the conflict with Arabs. “I was one of the lost boys,” he said, “and thank God that I never went to the front lines.” He became a Christian in 1995 and was trained in Kenya and Uganda as a pastor. He now works to train church and community leaders among neighboring tribes that are involved in chronic conflict and will speak to us about the Cooperative Peace Agreement (CPA) in the Sudan.

For more information about Tubuwa’s visit, call or e-mail Schreiner campus minister Rev. Gini Norris-Lane at 830-792-7284 or vanorrislane@schreiner.edu. For more information about Schreiner, visit the website at www.schreiner.edu.
