HCCF Kickoff Luncheon Surpasses Goal
The Schreiner University Hill Country College Fund kicked off its annual campaign at a luncheon last week to raise need-based scholarship funds for Schreiner students from Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Bandera, Edwards, Kimble and Real counties. Organizers had a $250,000 goal for the event, which was exceeded by almost $5,000.
Members of Schreiner University’s women’s volleyball team play Vanna White and hold up numbers showing how much money the Hill Country College Fund has raised so far in this year’s campaign. HCCF scholarships are need-based and go to Schreiner students from Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Bandera, Edwards, Kimble and Real counties.
“Schreiner University is grateful for the vision and dedication of the many volunteers devoted to the Hill County College Fund Campaign,” said Schreiner development officer L. Beth Johnson. “Because of the substantial need—94 percent of Schreiner’s undergraduates receive some form of financial aid and Hill Country students need over $1,000,000 in assistance—the leaders committed to a goal of $550,000 for the year and a short-term goal of $250,000 to be met by the campaign’s Kickoff Luncheon. We were proud to announce that $254,885 has been raised so far.”
First-year Schreiner student Carolina Robles, from Comfort, addressed the gathering on “What It Means To Be a HCCF Recipient” and guests saw the premiere of the new Schreiner video “Building a Great New Start.”
The HCCF campaign is ongoing under the leadership of chair Mike Lowe, JM Lowe & Co.; honorary chairs Nancy and Ed Wallace; vice chair Laurie Lowe, also of JM Lowe & Co. Division chairs are Kent McKinney, president of Guadalupe National Bank, for advanced gifts; Dick Eastland, director of Camp Mystic, business gifts; Mike Graxiola, publisher, Kerrville Daily Times, community gifts; and Jennifer Doss, payroll coordinator, Schreiner University, and Barry Shaw, professor of exercise science, Schreiner University, university gifts.
