Schreiner Nurses Club to sponsor April 13 blood drive
The Schreiner University Nurse Interest Club will sponsor a blood drive from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at the Mountaineer Fitness Center on the University campus. The blood drive will be coordinated by the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.
“Giving blood is truly giving the gift of life,” said Gloria Algeo, RN, and director of Health and Wellness at Schreiner University. “Each unit of donated blood can save as many as three lives.”
The Nurse Interest Club is a Recognized Student Organization for nursing students interested in Schreiner’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This blood drive will serve as a replacement drive for Kerrville teen Katie McCarty. She recently underwent a bone marrow transplant and each pint donated will go toward an account to make up for the blood she needs while undergoing treatment.
South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB); American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB); and America’s Blood Centers (ABC).
