Grammy-award winning band to play at Schreiner
Max Baca y Los Texmaniacs will headline at Schreiner University’s first Texas Music Coffeehouse of the new academic year at 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, in The Lion’s Den at the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center. The evening is a tribute to Spanish Heritage Month.
Baca-Texmaniacs-grammys Max Baca y Los Texmaniacs won a 2009 Grammy for their CD “Borders y Bailes.” They will be performing at the Texas Music Coffeehouse on the Schreiner University campus at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7. Baca is on the left in the photo, with accordion player David Farías.
Baca is a noted virtuoso on the bajo sexto (“sixth bass”), a twelve-string instrument like a guitar. He and the band won a 2009 Grammy Award for their “Borders y Bailes” CD. The band’s musical style has been described as a mixture of Tex-Mex conjunto and Texas rock, seasoned with blues and R&B. Max has appeared on the David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno late night shows, as well as in several PBS documentaries and “Austin City Limits.”
