Texas Writers Conference April 6-7 at Schreiner University
       
Texas Writers ConferenceThe Schreiner University Center for Innovative Learning will sponsor the Texas Writers Conference April 6-7, in the ballroom of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

The conference will begin Wednesday with a workshop by Thom Moon Poet at 2:25 p.m. He will also be featured in the Spoken Word Texas Coffeehouse Series slam poetry contest from 7-9 Wednesday night.

The featured speaker on Thursday will be Karla K. Morton the 2010 Texas Poet Laureate, author and storyteller. She has been described as “one of the most adventurous voices in American poetry.” She will be the speaking from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Vic Inzunza, an emerging California poet who gives voice to experiences from the war in Iraq will be featured from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Featured from 3:30-5 p.m. will be Natalia Trevino and Rachel Jennings, writers-in-residence of the Sandra Cisnero’s Macondo Foundation. There will also be readings by Morton and others beginning at 6:30 p.m.
     
There will be two preconference workshops on Wednesday, March 30. At 2:25, Silke Feltz, Schreiner instructor of English and German, will hold a workshop on poetry and at 6 p.m. Ron Franscell, award-winning journalist and crime writer, will explore and explain the Hero's Journey story model that underlies every great story humans have ever told and how you can give your own storytelling the same timeless feel as the world's greatest writers. Franscell said, “Once you know these secrets, you'll never again face writer's block.”

There is no charge for the preconference workshops or the writers conference and they are open to the public, but RSVP’s are appreciated for planning purposes.
