Schreiner Health Fair to include alternative therapies
Schreiner University’s annual Fall Health Fair will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the ballrooms on the second floor of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the university campus.
A number of health care vendors and providers will have booths where fair visitors can get free health screenings, such as vision and hearing screening, and blood pressure and blood sugar testing and BMI index testing. Also available for attendees will be information about women’s health, diabetes, quitting smoking, cancer awareness and nutrition. There will be door prizes and music by the D.C. Pickers.
Among those manning the booths will be Peterson Regional Medical Center, the Texas Department of State Health Services and Schreiner nursing students. Attendees can also get a flu shot for $27 (free for Medicare Part B). Health Scans will be offering a variety of diagnostic procedures at reduced cost, including body mass index; heart artery, peripheral arterial disease scans; and a weight management exam. They also will have some lab tests, such as a complete cholesterol package and A1C and PSA tests, also for reduced cost.
This year there will be a number of booths representing alternative treatments, including acupuncture, iridology, Reiki, Healing Touch Therapy, kinesiology, chiropractic and massage, many offering free samples.
