Schreiner to host Olsen art show
Schreiner University will host an exhibit of the art of Dennis Olsen, professor of art at the University of Texas - San Antonio and founder of the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy (www.santareparata.org). There will be a reception for the artist from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6, in the second-floor gallery of Schreiner’s Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center. The exhibit will run Nov. 6-Dec. 3 and will be open to the public 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The exhibit will feature Olsen’s intaglio prints, made by drawing on transparent Mylar sheets, then exposing the drawing to light sensitive plates that are printed as intaglios on an etching press. The results are composite faces: kings, queens, tyrants, heroes, saints and sinners. The collection of portraits shows the residents of an imaginary village that is exists unanchored in time and space, containing characters from many eras and locations.
