Symphony of the Hills to promote “Painted Violins”

ViolinKERRVILLE—The Symphony of the Hills is planning a truly imaginative fundraising event for its 10th season. The Symphony has provided violins to local artists to be painted or decorated front and back in a medium, and inspired by a musical piece, of the artist’s choice.

The “Painted Violins” will be exhibited for public view in the lobby of the Cailloux Theater at a December 1 reception during the symphony’s second concert of the 2011-2012 season. The violins will then be displayed at other local venues, including the Great Hall of Schreiner’s Logan Library and the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center. The symphony will host another reception during a concert in the spring, at which the violins will be auctioned to concert goers to raise funds to expand the symphony’s reach in the Hill Country area. The artists all donate their time and materials, so all proceeds from the auction will directly benefit the symphony.

Participating artists include: Halsey Bascom, Kathryn Bowen, Kathleen Cook, Norma Daniel, Evelyn Hickey, John and Edith Maskey, Mary Ann Moss, Clint Orms, Judy Richie, Andy Ritch, Richard Rouse, Nancy Wallace, Roy Lee Ward, Mary Weekley and Mary Zirkel.

Season and individual concert tickets for the 2011-2012 season are now on sale and can be purchased at www.symphonyofthehills.org/tickets, or by calling the symphony office at 830-792-7469 or the Cailloux box office at 830-896-9393.
