Schreiner University Graduation to be May 12
Schreiner University’s 2012 commencement and baccalaureate services will take place on Saturday, May 12, in the Edington Center on the Schreiner campus.
The baccalaureate service will be at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Seaman, the former director of church relations at Schreiner, as the featured speaker. Seaman is a native of Tyler, Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va. He has served churches in Sardis, Miss., and in Texas at churches in Odessa, Bay City and San Antonio.
Dr. Francisco Cigarroa, Chancellor of the University of Texas, will give the commencement address. A native of Laredo, Cigarroa earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1979 and received his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1983. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor medical society. During his 12 years of postgraduate training, Cigarroa was chief resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, the teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, and completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Cigarroa was appointed Chancellor of the University of Texas System in January 2009. He is the first Hispanic to ever lead a major university system in the United States. Before this appointment he had been president of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He was elected an Alumni Fellow to the Yale Corporation for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2010.
Commencement seating is limited to ticket holders.
