Schreiner Looking for Young Ecologists
Schreiner University is putting out a call for budding ecologists in the 4th through 8th grades for its new Schreiner Youth Ecologist Program. The program, developed by students of Dr. Chris Distel, assistant professor of biology, will consist of eight sessions beginning Saturday, Feb. 18, and running through April 28. The sessions will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
According to Distel, SYEP is designed to introduce younger students to environmental topics with a focus on science and experimentation.
“We will cover different kinds of ecosystems and how they work, diverse animal groups,” said Distel, “and have some projects that run throughout the program so the students can observe and record changes in ecosystems. These courses will be taught by Schreiner students, with my help, on Schreiner’s campus.”
The cost for participants will be $40, which covers all the sessions and is due by Friday, Feb. 17.
For more information about SYEP and to sign up, e-mail or phone Distel at firstname.lastname@example.org or 830-792-7470.
