Hunt Author to speak at Schreiner Mansion March 20
Hunt resident and history researcher Jeanne Schumacher Sutton will talk about her book, “Hunt, Texas: The Early Years, 1857-1959,” on Tuesday, March 20, at the Schreiner Mansion Historic Site and Education Center, 226 Earl Garrett St., in Kerrville. There will be a 5 p.m. reception before the presentation and a book signing afterwards. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by Schreiner University in recognition of Women’s History Month.
“When I returned to Hunt after years in the military, I realized many of the ‘old-timers’ who’d entertained me with stories of Hunt’s past were aging and their historical knowledge would soon be lost,” said Sutton, a Hunt native. “I began gathering news articles, photos and stories, but had yet to put it into an organized form. The Hunt Centennial Committee encouraged me to create a permanent record of this small town’s history and help create enthusiasm for the Centennial. Book sales have exceeded our expectations. Many people are buying books for their children and grandchildren.”
Copies of Sutton’s book will be on sale at her talk. All proceeds will go to the Hunt Centennial Committee.
The Mansion is an historic building without elevator access to the second floor, where the presentation will take place. Although this is a free event, reservations are required because of limited space is. To reserve, call to reserve: 830-896-8633.
