Photos of Kerrville Faces at Schreiner Mansion May 18
Photographs taken by David Jackson at the Frontier Barbershop will be on display at the Schreiner Mansion Historic Site and Education Center, 226 Earl Garrett, May 18-June 23. The exhibit, “Faces of Kerrville: Images from a Barber’s Chair,” was the idea of Dr. Charlie McCormick, Schreiner University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.
“Although getting our hair cut is a widespread and common experience, it is also very personal and intimate,” said McCormick. “These photographs open up that most interesting moment of being in the barber’s chair where we are who we are when the masks we too often wear fall away.”
The images include a cross-section of Texas Hill Country residents, as well as visitors to the area. Vicki Mullins, assistant art director of creative services at Schreiner, designed the exhibit.
This photograph by David Jackson is part of an exhibit of his work, “Faces of Kerrville: Images from a Barber’s Chair,” that opens May 18 at the Schreiner Mansion Historic Site and Education Center.
“This exhibit is part of a larger service project initiated by Leadership Kerr County to contribute to the revitalization of downtown by helping bring the mansion back to its former glory,” said Mark Tuschak, vice president for advancement and public affairs at Schreiner. “Many donors and volunteers contributed significant funding and many hours to make this project a success.”
The exhibit will open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 18, with a grand re-opening ribbon cutting at 1 pm. and will be free and open to the public 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
In 2009 the Hill Country Preservation Society donated Charles Schreiner’s mansion to Schreiner University, the college he founded. For more information, visit http://mansion.schreiner.edu.
