Schreiner to Host Convocation Ceremony August 23
Schreiner University will kick off the 2013 fall semester with the Convocation ceremony at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, in the Dietert Auditorium on the Schreiner campus.
This year’s convocation theme will be “Being A Responsible Citizen,” and Dean of Students Dr. Charlie Hueber will speak on students understanding the responsibility they have in creating and adding value to the degrees they hope to earn.
“We, as an institution, have a responsibility to provide a wide range of opportunities for students, but it is the student’s choice to take advantage of those opportunities or not,” he said.
Dr. Hueber recently joined the Schreiner University family and originally hails from Cushing, Texas. He earned his undergraduate and masters degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and obtained his doctorate from Texas A&M—Commerce.
Dr. Hueber has worked for Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., as the director of student activities and Russel Union Student Center, and, most recently, as the executive director of student life and judicial officer at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.
This will be Dr. Hueber’s first time speaking at an event at Schreiner University, and he couldn’t be more excited.
“I am honored to have the opportunity, excited to share my message, and nervous
I am going to mess it all up,” he said. “My goal is to have fewer than three freshmen fall asleep during my speech.”
Convocation is a free event that is open to the public.
