Schreiner Professor Exhibiting Artwork

Schreiner Professor Exhibiting Artwork

Local artist and Schreiner University professor Diana James will be exhibiting her artwork December 6-January 6 at Rivers Edge Gallery in downtown Kerrville.

There will be an opening reception Friday, Dec. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the gallery located at 832 Water Street.

James, an adjunct art instructor at Schreiner, recently earned her Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Her latest works incorporate oil and gold leaf into archetypal representations of women in forest and desert environments.

“Looking for balance within my own being has inspired me to complete a series of paintings that reflect personal archetypes,” James said. “Using symbols of shadow, defender, dreamer, dancer and light, the female figures evoke an inner spirituality that represents facets of who I believe I am.”

Her art experiences include art director, scenic artist, and commissioned drawings, murals and faux finishes. Working for such clients as the Chicago Bears and the Sara Lee Corporation she owned her own decorative art business in the Chicago area for 14 years. After moving to Kerrville in 2006 she became the education director for the Museum of Western Art and coordinated the prestigious Western Art Academy for gifted high school art students.
