Schreiner To Host Event Feb. 14 to Combat Violence Against Women

Schreiner University and members of the Kerrville community will come together Thursday, Feb. 14, at noon, and join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day—the global movement aimed at ending violence against women and girls.

The event featuring original poetry, music and much more will take place in The Commons on the SU campus. The community is encouraged to attend. Any funds raised at the event will benefit Hill Country Cares, a local non-profit that helps victims of domestic violence and rape. together Thursday, Feb. 14, at noon, and join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day—the global movement aimed at ending violence against women and girls.

Alexandra Wright, SU sophomore and event coordinator, said the occasion is about empowering women.

“There is an epidemic of violence against women,” Wright said. “Our silence is the disease and our strength is in numbers.”

V-Day was started almost 15 years ago by playwright and activist Eve Ensler as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.
