Schreiner University says students to benefit from new Chartwells food service contract
KERRVILLE—Citing better value, expanded service, and an enhanced dining experience, Schreiner University has selected Chartwells to provide its campus food service beginning June 1. The university had considered proposals from three vendors: Sodexo, Aramark and Chartwells.
According to Schreiner’s vice president for administration and finance, Bill Muse, Chartwells’ winning bid included more than $2.3 million in capital investments, including a significant renovation of the Gus Schreiner dining hall, addition of several new national franchise mini-dining venues and expanded service hours for students’ convenience.
“Schreiner is committed to improving our students’ dining experience while minimizing costs to them,” said Muse. “Chartwells’ willingness to partner with the university to make needed improvements in our dining facilities means we can achieve this transformation without big price increases for students. Even with greatly expanded dining opportunities, meal plan price increases for next year will be held to 3 percent.”
Muse also pointed out that Chartwells made a strong case for its food quality and nutrition, its willingness to seek out locally grown produce and its congruence with Schreiner’s new environmental stewardship goals.
Chartwells, a member of Compass Group, has expanded its higher education presence in the Southwest in recent years. Current clients include Texas State University, LSU, University of Arkansas, U.T.-Dallas, Angelo State, Colorado State and the University of New Mexico.
Muse says that the University will be planning a grand reopening of the Gus Schreiner Dining Hall in August, and members of the Hill Country community will be invited. For more information, please contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Schreiner University is a private university in Kerrville with more than 1,100 students enrolled in 26 undergraduate degree programs and two graduate programs.
