RECALL to feature golf tournament, new events
Schreiner University’s homecoming weekend, Recall, will be hosted April 4-6 with great events for former students and community members. The weekend kicks off every year with the Randy Shepler Annual Alumni Golf Tournament at Riverhill Country Club. The 2014 tournament will again have Ken Stoepel Ford/Lincoln as its major sponsor, and tournament proceeds will be placed into the Schreiner Former Students Association Endowed Scholarship Fund that is a part of the Hill Country College Fund—a Schreiner scholarship fund that benefits students in Bandera, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble and Real counties.
Most of the tournament field will be current and former Schreiner students, but community golfers also are encouraged to play. The tournament fee is $125, and the field is capped at 96 players. The tournament will start at 1:15 p.m., Friday, April 4.
The rest of the weekend is full of activities for all ages. The theme for this year’s homecoming weekend is “Schreiner: 90 Years of Family.” New events that have been added this year include a Friday night bonfire and barn dance at the Robbins Lewis Pavilion, then on Saturday a Fun Run/Walk that will also have a kid’s obstacle course. On both Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. there will be guided tours of the Schreiner mansion, and this year’s exhibit will be “Graces Received: Painted and Metal Ex-Votos from Mexico and Italy.” Visit http://mansion.schreiner.edu/ for more information.
At 10 a.m. April 6, worship services will be hosted at the restored Union Church. Schreiner University’s Campus Ministry, Schreiner’s alumni and students will lead the regular worship services that day. We invite all alums and guests to join in celebrating our history and strong relationship between the college and the church for the past 90 years.
The Schreiner University dining hall will be closed to the public on Saturday but will reopen for brunch on Sunday.
