‘Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ Kicks Off MNF


Monday Night Fiction

Schreiner University’s Monday Night Fiction discussion group will start the 2017-18 academic year with Arundhatu Roy’s The Ministry of Utmost Happiness on Monday, Oct. 2. Devon McLaughlin of the Registrar’s Office will lead the session.

Open to all area residents, Monday Night Fiction meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month in the Schreiner University Outfitters Bookstore. Copies of featured books will be available for sale there in advance.

Other novels scheduled for discussion and the leaders are:

  • Nov. 6--Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, retired Schreiner president Tim Summerlin
  • Dec. 4--Larry McMurtry's Horseman, Pass By, Vice President for Administration and Finance Bill Muse
  • Feb. 5—Carl Hiaasen’s Hoot, retired professor of exercise science Tom Wells.
  • March 5--William Kent Krueger's Ordinary Grace, retired Schreiner biology professor Fred Stevens
  • April 2--Paulette Jiles' News of the World, retired instructor of Spanish Pat Chastain
