2008 Workshops
You are cordially invited to attend two FREE
events and earn continuing professional
education (CPE) credits/units the third weekend
in October. Sponsors are Past is Prologue (PIP):
A Learning Way and Schreiner University’s Center
for Innovative Learning. These annual PIP events
share timeless wisdom from the first written
Native American oral history, “The Walking
People” authored by Paula Underwood. This year’s
theme has a familiar ring to those with
“listening ears.” It adapts the Hopi saying that
begins with “We are the ones ...” who must
change our behavior towards the environment to
sustain the lives of the seventh generation
hence. Participants will learn what this ancient
people learned from cataclysmic environmental
changes and we will discuss how those lessons
apply to present daunting environmental
challenges.
All events will take place in the Hanszen
Fine Arts Center on the campus of Schreiner
University.
The first event, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on
Friday, October 17th will feature a Native
American Learning Story told by Mobi Warren, a
gifted educator and expert storyteller. This
will be followed by a general discussion led by
local panelists who have demonstrated in their
own lives their understanding of living gently
on the earth.
The second event is a workshop on Saturday
Oct. 18th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The morning
session will involve relevant experiential
learning through a Native American story. The
afternoon session will focus on some traditional
tools which are easily assimilated and readily
available for helping us navigate through rapid
environmental changes.
Earn up to eight (8) continuing professional
education credits/units by attending both Friday
and Saturday events. If you attend both sessions
on Saturday, you may receive six (6) credits.
For your convenience and to facilitate greater
participation, if you can only attend one of the
two sessions on Saturday, then you will receive
three (3) credits.
We look forward to welcoming you to our 14th
annual PIP events. If we can provide further
information or to pre-register, please contact
Kathleen Hudson, Ph.D. at (830) 792-7409.
Pre-registration is desired to ensure that we
have enough materials on hand, but it is not
required.
