Do you plan on making any major changes to Schreiner’s Campus Ministry Program?

I know one overriding concern I heard during my interview process was the desire for Campus Ministry groups and their activities to achieve greater visibility and attract more people. This will take a lot of creative brainstorming and a lot of “sweat equity” on the part of me and the groups represented in our Campus Ministry clubs, but the rewards will be well worth the effort!

Another need is for more diversity in Campus Ministry programs and groups. All religious groups have wonderful stories, rituals and traditions that can greatly enrich a learning community. Even if there are no student groups representing such diversity, it would be good to offer symposiums or hands-on workshops featuring other traditions. On the other side of the fence, I would like to someday offer a science and religion course...with my other master’s degree being in Environmental Science, it is a subject of endless fascination to me.

Scientist/writers such as E.O. Wilson, Stephen Jay Gould, Sallie McFague, Michael Pollan and many others have some truly amazing and enlightening things to say to the scientific, religious and political world of today...I would consider it an honor to get students into dialogue with their ideas and thinking.

Tell us about your Welsh Corgis -- what are their names? How old are they? And should Schreiner adopt the Welsh Corgi as its mascot?

Our Welsh Pembroke corgis are the tailless ones, like the Queen of England's dogs; as opposed to the Cardigan Corgis, which are slightly bigger and have long, brushy tails. Our oldest corgi, "Sombra de la Montano" or "Shadow" of the Mountain, is almost 4; she considers herself the Queen and rules the roost! Her nickname is "Miss Busy" - she is a perpetual motion machine of playfulness. Our second one is Sir Charles Darwin Duncan, fondly known as "Duncan the slug bug"; eating and sleeping are his 2 favorite pastimes. He is not quite 3. Our "baby" is Queen of Dreams "Calleigh", only 5 months and a little pistol. We hope to show her someday. And yes, of course Schreiner should adopt Corgis as their mascot! After all, they are very intelligent, hard-working herding dogs who are known for being intuitive, quick learners. Now isn't that a good profile of a Schreiner student?

However, they also love to eat, clown around and show off. Their show-off nature puts them into some hilariously embarrassing positions so maybe the more serious, intelligent German Shepherd dog might be a better choice.
