This picture
evoked so many memories! The photograph is variously estimated at 1959,
1964, 1965, and 1968, and there are a number of opinions about who’s
who and what event is pictured. Some readers believe this was a Sunday
Review, while others place it as the end-of-the-year parade at graduation
time. Yet it might have been the photo of the semi-annual parade and
official Army inspection of the Battalion.
Ross Harris, ’66 working from the 1966 Recall yearbook, identifies
the young woman front and center as Caroline Malochleb, as does Donna
Young Shoup. Donna adds that Caroline Malochleb Kensing lives in Fredericksburg
with her husband who is currently the agriculture teacher at Tivy High
School in Kerrville. Ross adds that the young man at the far left with
a sword in his left hand is Capt. J.K. Nichols; the young lady on the
left side is a sponsor, Joy Robbins; and in the center with dark-rimmed
glasses is Capt. E.H. Harris, whose brother is a current Trustee.
Finally, Ross notes that Cindy Lochte can be seen in the second row,
just below the Schreiner flag, and that far right/front you’ll
find Capt. P. L. Morrison – both also identified by Donna Young
Shoup. Donna adds that the young man next to Cindy Lochte is probably
Edward Marrs. Cathy Carden Henry of Kingsville identified the young
man at the far left as Capt. Robert Allison, and agrees with Ross and
Donna that the young woman front and center is Sponsor Battalion commander
Caroline Malochleb.
The young man in the far right/front is Capt. P.L. Morrison. Cathy also
identified the young woman behind/right of Caroline Malochkeb as Ann
Medlin. An unidentified reader who believes that the photograph was
taken in 1959 offers the following with the note that they believe they
are 95-100% correct.
According to this contributor, the three young men with swords are,
on the left, Jim Lammon; in the center, Arlon Fields; and on the right,
Guy Matthews. In addition, our anonymous contributor states that on
Jim Lammons right is Linda Knapp; in front of Arlon Fields is Georgia
Graham; and behind Georgia Graham is Patsy Carter. Finally, we are told
that the person between Linda Knapp and Arlon Fields is Samuel Lee,
while the person whose head can be seen alongside Jim Matthew’s
head is James Stinson. Perhaps this photograph will bring many memories
for some of those attending Spring
2005 Recall. Who knows, some of the people in the photo
may show up to establish firmly, once and for all, who they are and
when it was.
Stay tuned in! Better yet, contact Allen Boatwright and share your memories
of these young people at caboatwright@schreiner.edu.
