The
Center for Innovative Learning is a new support organization for the
existing programs on campus and will serve to encourage new learning
opportunities.
The Center for Innovative Learning was born of a concept developed
by Jeanne Slobod, a Kerrville philanthropist, and Dr. Kathleen Hudson,
Schreiner English professor.

The
Center exists to further Schreiner University’s commitment to
be an institution where “all learn, all the time.” Its
purpose is to provide interdisciplinary learning opportunities for
students, the campus as a whole and the larger community.
Dr.
William Woods, associate professor of English, serves
as director of the Center. An administrative assistant provides support
and acts as liaison between all offices on campus.
An advisory council is made up of faculty, staff, students, individuals
from the community, and one administrative representative. The council’s
role is to discuss coordination of innovative learning activities
on campus, to be proactive in creating new ones, and to set priorities
for the Center’s staff. Among the Center’s current programs
are: Texas Music Coffeehouse,
Living History Day, The Past Is Prologue,
Speak Truth to Power, Monday Night Fiction, Hallman Chautauqua Lecture
Series, Harry Crate Lecture Series, Labatt Speaker Series, Cooper
Lecture Series and Leadership Institute.
