New Season, New Possibilities

If preparation is a key to success, then the 2005-2006 season holds great promise for the SU men’s basketball team. “Train like underdogs and win like champions” is the team motto and the Mountaineers certainly invested a great deal of “sweat equity” during the first six weeks of preseason workouts. Running hills, weight lifting, sprint workouts, and hours of court time should pay dividends when game time rolls around. The Mountaineers add nine new members to a talented returning crew and the SU game plan will focus on transition and intense defense. Head Coach Thirman Dimery feels that strong leadership will contribute to the team’s success. “We are excited about the upcoming season. The incoming class will push the veterans to become better, and as a whole we should realize our potential.” Dimery and the SU coaching staff say that Mountaineer fans can expect more notches in the “win” column this season.

The Mountaineers face off against conference rival Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday, November 22 in their season opener. Schreiner will host U.T.–Tyler in the first home game on Thursday, December 1.
