Greystone ....Now a USNA Affiliated Program

Greystone at Schreiner University,
a new preparatory program for students who intend to apply to one of this nation’s elite military academies, has been accepted by the United States Naval Academy Foundation as a foundation-affiliated school.

Commander David Bailey USN (Ret) said, “The Greystone mission is to prepare candidates academically, athletically and morally so they may earn their appointment and then maximize their 4-year academy experience. Approval of this unique program by the Naval Academy Foundation enables Greystone to better serve the needs of sponsored candidates as well as the needs of the Academy.”

The U.S. Naval Academy Foundation is an independent, non-profit corporation. Its purpose is to raise private gifts to support all activities of the Naval Academy Alumni Association. One of those activities is to provide scholarships to students attending affiliated schools.

Bailey said Greystone at Schreiner will now be included in an elite group of 20 other schools that are mentioned in every mailing that goes out to prospective academy students. Greystone, however, is the only college-level program in the affiliated group.

“This means a great deal to us in terms of legitimacy. A year ago we were unknown. Now we will be directly presented to the very students we are trying to reach,” Bailey said.

Greystone came to Schreiner in 2004 to give qualified young people whose military academy applications were being turned down an alternative to repeating a year of high school prep. The program is now also helping students prepare for their first academy application.

Greystone provides these men and women with the right combination of rigorous academics, physical and mental preparation and moral guidance to give them a competitive edge at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

In its first year at Schreiner, Greystone had an 80 percent acceptance rate by the academies, sending students on to the U. S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
