Ruesch named Athletic Director
Head softball coach Rhonda Ruesch has been named athletic director, effective June 1.

As athletic director, Ruesch will oversee Schreiner’s athletic program and represent the university in all aspects of athletics.

Ruesch replaces Barry Shaw, who was named special assistant to the
provost for athletic affairs.

“Mountaineer athletics is a wonderful component of the Schreiner campus,
and I am really looking forward to working with the student athletes, the
coaching staff and the alumni to continue the tradition of making athletics the backbone of Schreiner University,” she said.

Ruesch just finished her third season coaching Schreiner’s softball team.
Since she took over the softball program, the team has been progressing in the rankings and becoming a dominant program within the league. The 2003 team compiled a 14–9 conference record, to finish in second place in the ASC-West and earned a berth in the conference tournament. This year’s team finished 9–17 overall and 9–15 in the conference.

She also has taught individualized fitness classes, performed the duties of
the sports information director and served as the interim head volleyball coach this past fall.

Before coming to Schreiner, Ruesch was the sports information director
and assistant softball coach at Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. “It was the family atmosphere and the wonderful welcoming feeling I felt when I stepped onto the campus. It was like I was back home even though I didn't know a soul here,” she said of coming to Schreiner. Home for Ruesch is Medford, Wisconsin, where she grew up playing all sports. Ruesch attended Mt. Senario, where she played softball—twice earning All-Conference honors.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Ruesch moved to Alamosa, Colorado, to work on her master’s degree in health and physical education at Adams College. While at Adams College, she was a graduate assistant softball coach. During her final year at Adams, Ruesch stepped up as the interim head softball coach. After earning her master’s, she returned to Mt. Senario before coming to Schreiner.
